During the Stay-at-Home Order, city offices were closed to the public. During this time staff transitioned to remote services and continued their dedication from behind the scenes. Our office environment may have changed, but our service commitment to the residents of Castle Pines has not.
Over the last month and a half, the Public Works department has been taking advantage of the nice weather and limited traffic to move forward with repairs, maintenance, and upgrades.
2019 Paving Project Complete
On April 22, 2020, the last roads, delayed due to weather, from the 2019 Pavement Rehabilitation Project were completed. The commitment to improve Castle Pines' roads, included repair work on the curb, gutter, and sidewalks, upgrading or installing curb ramps to meet the current ADA standards, and of course various asphalt treatments including complete reconstruction to mill and overlays thereby providing residents a new street.
Through this project, the complete reconstruction of the Castle Pines Parkway and Monarch Blvd., the City’s busiest intersection, was accomplished. This reconstruction also provided an opportunity to add second left-turn lane from southbound Monarch Boulevard to eastbound Castle Pines Parkway, greatly enhancing the traffic flows.
A total of 3 miles of roadway work involving 43 different sections was completed with detailed descriptions of the improvements on the City’s interactive map.
City Signs
We’ve been continuing to create a community we will continue to be proud of. Over the last month and a half, we continued implementation of the long-term vision to attract retailers, investors and create a path to help visitors, pedestrians, and residents find their way through our City.
The first phase of this work was completed with the installation of new street signs with the City logo, located on the traffic signals, completing the intersections listed below:
● Castle Pines Parkway and Debbie Lane
● Castle Pines Parkway and Village Square Drive /Charter Oaks
● Castle Pines Parkway and Lagae Road
● Castle Pines Parkway and Yorkshire Drive
● Castle Pines Parkway and Monarch Boulevard
● I-25 and Castle Pines Parkway Ramp
Our most exciting sign installations are the new City boundary signs. There are two located on Castle Pines Parkway, one on the eastern boundary and the other just east of I-25, and finally the southern boundary on Lagae Road. These signs identify our City and welcome residents and visitors with a logo representing Castle Pines’ iconic rolling hills, pine trees and elevation. Additionally, a new City Hall directional sign was installed on Castle Pines Parkway and Village Square Drive intersection.
Our intent is to create an extensive system that will knit together our neighborhoods from the east to the west, directing outdoor enthusiasts to parks and trails, giving residents and visitors directional cues to entertainment, residential areas, and businesses to encourage everyone to eat local, spend local, and play locally.
This is the beginning of a five to ten-year process that will help our residents and visitors connect the community of Castle Pines.
Pothole Season
It’s pothole season and your public works team is on the road, patching and repairing your streets. As always resident assistance is vital in making the street’s safer. If you see it, report it. Light Poles
In early March, IREA installed caissons on Castle Pines Parkway, this is the first phase to install new streetlights.
Over the next two months, old wiring will be replaced, and the new poles will be installed providing more efficient lighting in our community.
As some of you may have noticed, there have been streetlight outages around the City. As IREA diagnoses the problem, they are reporting that many of these outages are caused by old failing wiring and have been installing new wire where warranted. This work does sometime require temporary shifts in the travel lanes. When you enter a work zone, please slow down and use caution to protect those working.
