Everyone Counts! Census 2020

January 2, 2020 at 2:25 pm

On April 1st, the 2020 Census kicks off! Every household in the United States will be asked to answer a short series of questions that will influence policy making and planning for the next decade. Your participation will determine how the federal government makes its spending decisions.

The United States census is so much more than just a head count--it's a snapshot of your City that determines how federal dollars are distributed. This is money that goes towards hospitals, schools, roads, and other vital programs to your community for the next ten years.  For every person that is not counted, the City of Castle Pines loses over $2,000 per person each year for the next ten years. The census results are also used to reapportion the House of Representatives, determining how many seats each state gets to give fair representation.  Your participation is very important!

Starting in mid-March, you will receive a letter asking you to go online to complete the brief census questionnaire.  It's safe, quick, and easy! The U.S. Census Bureau will never ask for things like your social security number, bank or credit card information, anything on behalf of a political party, or for any money or donations.  If your response isn't received, the U.S. Census Bureau will send up to five mailings to encourage your participation online, by mail, or by phone.
